yeah, that's in huge debate everywhere; several lj threads on my friend's page, several gaming forums, etc etc.
i personally see no problem with it due to statistics. Due to a few directions i feel the industry should be heading toward by now I actually welcome the ground-breaker.
The spread is directly inline for Bloodrayne which sold almost entirely on the character being sexy and somewhat on the gameplay being slightly innovative, everything else was mediocre. All of the other characters (with one or two exceptions) sell on the same things. Sex sells, there's nothing one can do about that, however the shelf life of a sexy game is quite short because the game usually sucks. I really don't see the spread being any different from all of the video game advertisements that have been in playboy for the past 10 years. I find it funny because so many people are going to want to see it out of curiosity but then feel really pathetic for actually seeing the "nudes."
All of the controversy over the issue is just going to make Playboy sell more issues anyway. They'll probably sell a few thousand just to people who want it as protest material.
Meh, I already heard about it, and to me it's not that big of a deal... Just the first mainstream nudity of a video game character in the US.
They've done plenty of skimpy clothed/bathing suits fanservice in magazines already. There's already been tomb raider nude patches for computer games. Already been console games with nudity (see: BMX XXX).
There's even already been CG/artsy nude pictorials in Playboy and Penthouse before.
So i'll never really see what the big deal about this is... I would think people would be much more offended by the game company last year or so that wanted to buy advetising space on people's actual Tombstones.
