Date: 2001-10-10 11:01 pm (UTC)It is a horrible, miserable feeling but no matter what you think it comes down to the fact that we still must realize that people are going to get hurt, we can't stop all our friend's, all those that we care for from being hurt. If we did, we'd bleed ourselves to death inside in a matter of days. Wounds must be taken by people in order to grow stronger though. I've lost a lot of people to death and I feel as if I can blame every single death on myself. I could have been there, I could have done something. What though? Gods know but I don't. I failed them all, twenty people and I failed each of them.
I realize though that even had I been stronger, faster, smarter and had even known, there was nothing I could have done for any them. Burn me, but I was just a powerless to help them to be able to help everyone. You have to keep trying because to that one you help protect, that one's life that you'll completely change. Maybe even changing two or three, that means so much more than any amount of time that something failed. You'll fail no matter how powerful you are because even though failing is something we can't afford to do, we can't stop it because we are just warriors and not the gods.
"Trying is a part of failing. If you are afraid to fail then you're afraid to try."
"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"All honor to him who shall win the prize, The world has cried for a thousand years; But to him who tries and fails and dies, I give great honor and glory and tears.--Joaquin Miller"
Hope this helps, my friend.

Date: 2001-10-11 06:11 pm (UTC)Thank you.
You know me. I could never give up protecting. It is what I am. I beat myself up when I fail, as is inevitable. I know sometimes damage is necessary, but I don't have to like it. But I do not give up. I could not. Even when I think that I am a complete failure at it, I cannot give up, because it is so strongly who I am.
May the gods give us luck and strength Dusty.
