Steampunk Fairy Tales Redux

As promised, I've started wrapping my head around going other designs for the SteamPunk Fairy Tales costumes and characters. I've got one new boy design, and a few ladies in progress in my head (some with specific costumers in mind for the designs).

That said, this will be a little repetitive for those who watch my art/writing journal, but here's the stuff so far:

pyro_ike came up with the idea of doing a Fairy Tale-themed SteamPunk costuming group for Dragon*Con 2009. pyro_ike claimed the Big Bad Wolf, asatira claimed Little Red Riding Hood, and I took the princess from The Wild Swans.
The three of us brainstormed a list of suggested characters and key ideas and advertised the costume gathering on LJ and Cosplay.com.
The group got some attention on LJ and a Fairy Tale blog or two.

As more people got involved, and asatira and I started sketching up our costume concepts (we're artists, it's a thing we do), asatira started to flesh out a background for the character of Little Red Riding Hood, which prompted me to do the same, plus I tried to tentatively suggest tying the characters' stories together. Thus began what is slowly turning into a Steampunk Fairy Tales universe with a fun cast of alternate universe fairy tale people.

So now we have for characters:

[Little Red Riding Hood] Elizabeth "Ellie" Davies an airship pilot, adventurer, and messenger/courier for Little's Red Riding Hoods --an organization run by "Grandmother". Michelle's still working out the details, but Ellie is not a super-famous Hood, but she is quite good enough to have a few penny novels written about some of her exploits.

[Little Red Riding Hood] Mr. Garou a devious sort and holds prominent place in London's underworld. He seems to have (at least at some point in September ;) ) been interested in acquiring something one of Little's Red Riding Hoods was transporting.

[The Wild Swans] Odette Lohengrin the only daughter of a noble family, many years ago her stepmother used alchemy to turn her 6 brothers into swans --only to regain their human forms at night. Odette was not changed into a swan, but the same alchemy made her permanently mute. A lot of things happened, but Odette was able to reverse the effect on all but the youngest of her brothers, Conn. Now she and Conn travel the world researching and trying to find a cure for him.

[The Wild Swans] Conn Lohengrin the youngest son of a noble family, many years ago his stepmother used alchemy to turn his 6 brothers into swans --only to regain their human forms at night-- and to make his sister mute. years later, although the rest of his brothers are cured, Conn is still a swan by day and human only at night. He travels the world with his younger sister, Odette, researching and trying to find a cure. Most people assume that his swan form is an eccentric pet kept by his sister and marvel at how difficult Conn is to locate during the daytime. (Conn has developed a crush on Ellie.)

There are --of course-- a couple of other OCs I'm going to want to draw too, micarei's Cinderella and eveshka's Pussette in Boots, I just haven't gotten there yet.


The actual gathering went pretty well, and I decided to pull together more character designs post-Dragon*Con, which is where we are now.

Yeah, those two will definitely be designed as a paired set. (I kind of want to do Diamonds & Toads too, but I haven't got a good idea on how to handle it.)

Um um uhhhh um erm I don't know! With all the photos and stories you already have up, I think any one of them would be splendid. Sorry if I'm not much help, but I know that whatever you do next will be just as marvellous as the rest of them. c;
