[livejournal.com profile] serika_san assigned me: Princess Tutu, Slayers, Chrno Crusade

Princess Tutu

01. The first character I fell in love with: Will it sound bad that I say Fakir? I started watching the series on advisement of an online friend, and got to episode 8 with no particular character preference when I watched Princess Tutu the first time. Oh, I really did not like Fakir, and I was getting bored of Mytho at that point. Ahiru made me giggle, but so did Mr. Cat. I didn't love them.
Then episode 8 happened, and hinted at what Fakir was. My eyes were glued to him for the rest of the series. Knight is a keyword for me.

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Fakir. Like I said. I started out hating him. Abusive personality? DO NOT WANT. But episode 8 caught my curiousity, and fromt there the series slowly made me understand and come to love the character as he developed.

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Uzura. I'm so sorry, please don't hurt me! You'll see me use this explination again in this meme. It's not that I actively dislike Uzura, but she's a plot device more than a character, and I just could not get super-attached to her. I've squeed and giggled like a madman over her lines for the implications of them, but not because of her. I just, never got emotionally attached to the litle girl. Edel's death made me sad. Uzura could've been killed, and I'm not certain I would've blinked.

04. The character you love that everyone else hates: Femio. Probably. He has so much fun crack potential. He just automatically adds the funny to my art without really having him do anything. Over-the-top character LULz. I think I get some sort of vicious satisfaction when I post art using him and the reaction is something like, "Whaaaaaaaaaaaat it that scary shirtless-? I'll pretend I didn't see it."

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Does not comprehend this question.

06. The character I would shag any time: I'm going to copy [livejournal.com profile] serika_san here, "None. I'm too old for them. But there's certain ones that are more than welcome to shag each other. *shot*"

07. The character I'd want to be like: Want to be like? Fakir I guess. If I had to be in that universe, despite how much his life sucked, I think I would want to be him. Or Rue. I understand where they came from emotionally the best out of the cast.

08. The character I'd slap: ...Autor. Your high horse, child? DISMOUNT.

09. A pairing that I love: Fakir/Ahiru. DUH. Also, Siegfried/Rue, Autor/Rue (when done well), Femio/Lilie (for the LULz), Lohengrin/Tutu (shut-up, [livejournal.com profile] blacksheep91 and I make it work).

10. A pairing that I hate: Badly done Autor/Rue, because it degrades to Mytho/Seigfried-bashing. I may not be the boy's biggest fan, but bashing a character to make your ship work kills my interest faster than anything else. Mytho/Fakir and Rue/Ahiru. I don't hate these, I can respectfully agree to disagree, but I honestly don't really get them. Emulating [livejournal.com profile] serika_san a bit, in both cases I see the relationships as platonic. Fakir is a mother-hen/abusive-father/overprotective-but-younger-brother to Mytho. Not a lover. Similarly with Rue and Ahiru, they're more like sisters to my mind. You want yuri in Tutu? Try Freya/Malen and Pique/Lilie, I hear people make that work well.

11. My five favorite characters: In order: Fakir, Rue, Ahiru, Drosselmeyer, Autor

12. My five least favorite characters: In order: Ebine (was totally creepers [livejournal.com profile] serika_san), Anteaterina, Malen (Staaa~aaalker...), Freya (WHUT? She was boring.), brainlessheartless!Mytho.

13. Which character I am most like: Fakir. Hands down. I am a knight dammit! No you're not! Am too! Grouches, angsts, and bitches over things outside her control--like people being morons. Uses words that are traditionally insults as terms of endearment. Fights out of her league to protect her most important person. Dies futile~ly. Oh wait, that's Lohengrin.

14. My deep, dark fandom secret:

1) As much as I love it, I'm a little sick of Fakir/Ahiru. It's a really weird situation. It's still my OTP. I still love seeing it and drawing it. But some how, I'm also bored to tears of seeing the same Fakiru fanart concept/pose repeated over and over and over again. I think it comes from running Club-Tutu. Some of it gets so repetitive, that anything new is a breath of fresh air. Even a new idea for drawing Fakiru.
Actually, strike that. It's not that I'm sick of Fakir/Ahiru. I'm sick of the lack of creativity. Especially when it's the same people drawing essentially the same picture in different poses repeatedly. Which is why so much of my PTT fanart has been coming out of left field concept-wise lately. It's also why [livejournal.com profile] asatira and I spend a ton of time discussing Club-Tutu contest descriptions to try to force the entries to get a little creative in execution. I love Fakir/Ahiru, I just want to see people think a little and try to draw something new with them.

2) The lazy-whiner Fakiru haters. You've seen them. They pop up every once in a while in the LJ comm whining about how Fakir/Ahiru is ruining PTT for them and everyone should cater to thier shipping preference. Because, OMG life, the universe, and everything isn't fair. 42. You want your pairing to thrive? Create for it. It starts with you. Don't whine to the comm about perect strangers not catering to your whims. Asshats.
See my number 1 here? Am I bored of seeing the same thing repeatedly? Yes. Am I whining about it expecting someone else to fix it? No. I'm creating community contest prompts designed to encourage creativity and damn skippy they work sometimes, look at some of those contest folders, people got creative given a juming off point. I'm drawing new ideas myself. I'm not waiting for someone to fulfill my wants, I'm doing it.

3) Is this even a secret? Fanon inventions/theories have become some of my favorite aspects of Tutu-dom. Autor's Strawberry fetish. Fakir & Rue as long-lost siblings. Femio and Lilie's epic love story. Dark Side: Raven Tutu. [livejournal.com profile] blacksheep91 and I's Tutu and Lohengrin sets (curly & straight). Autor the master story-spinner becoming essentially a second Drosselmeyer and... --Oh wait, that's not something I shared yet, is it? De Dee DEE. >:D

Slayers

01. The first character I fell in love with: Lina. As much as I love Zelgadis, Lina sold me on the show from the get-go. Strong, witty, short leading female that takes no guff from anyone.

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Xellos. He got on my nerves. He was evil. I didn't trust him any farther than I could throw him. But as I explored the fandom, interpretations sold me on the character as redeemable. Then, for the past 2 years, [livejournal.com profile] jrula being the Xellos in our Slayers group cosplay made me love the character more than I ever though possible via association of him with her. MY XELLOS! &heart;

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Amelia. Now do NOT get me wrong here. I like Amelia. I can respect Amelia. I don't dislike her (any more), but I don't love her and I am pretty alone in that for the most part. I know the series mostly through the anime, and when I first watched the show, I was in high school. Princess Justice was not the kind of character I could like back then, and the anime never really did sell her well to my personality type. Add to that-- when I finally joined the online fandom (as a lurker) all those years ago, I found the Ame' fans to be pretty torches-and-pitchforks-mob-tastic to anyone that dared to nay-say the character. It was hard to get past the impression I held for so long to be where I am now.
So as much as I like and respect the character now, I'm never quite going to love her.

04. The character you love that everyone else hates: Naga the White Serpent. I know. I know. I love her for the sheer LULZ-factor she provides. Plus, the thing with her being Ame's M.I.A. big sis (Gracia) and running off in fear/to become stronger/to hunt down her Mother's killers (whatever theory you like to go with) built within me empathy for that nutter.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Filia. I used to adore her loyalty to what she knew (even though it was wrong, that's part of loyalty sometimes, it's hard to question authority and still be loyal to it), and what she went through in Try as she learned the truth. However, as I've grown older, my sympathy towards her has waned signifigantly. The more people I've lost in my life, the more I understand and sympathize with Valgaav's actions. (What he did wasn't right, but I can see myself going there if I lost everyone.)

06. The character I would shag any time: Ummm. Not applicable? I love the characters for the most part, and I have my personal preferences of who I would like to end up together, but I can't imagine myself involved in that.

07. The character I'd want to be like: Luna Inverse. Hahaha. Live in fear for I am bad ass! Personal knight to the dragon god sounds like a fun gig too.

08. The character I'd slap: Filia. Calm down, take a chill pill, forget that BS you've been taught, and do what needs doing.

09. A pairing that I love: Zelgadis/Lina. Who didn't already know that? OTP IS CRACK. Delicious, yin-yang, gorgeous color scheme, intellectual equals, yummy-yummy fandom crack. *does her best Oliver Twist imitation* Can I have s'more, sir?

10. A pairing that I hate: Valgaav/Gaav. It squicks me like incest. I see it as an almost parental/brotherly/adopted/family relationship, so as a ship, it feels icky. Or anything similarly abusing a familial relationship into something sexual. Rezo/Zelgadis. Lina/Luna. Also anything that feels like pedophilia bugs me. Filia/reborn!Valgaav (set before he's reincarnated, I can swing it--after, just no, I don't care if you do age him up--he was a BABY). Also, Hellmaster Phibrizzo/Anyone. Phizzy is a neat villain, but between being a Mazoku and wearing a child's body, I can't imagine anything shipping related to him.

11. My five favorite characters: In order: Zelgadis, Lina, Xellos, Valgaav, Gaav.

12. My five least favorite characters: In no particular order: Martina, Sylphiel, Zolf, Jillas, Gravos.

13. Which character I am most like: Probably Zelgadis. I could go on at length, but I think most of you that can see this know why.

14. My deep, dark fandom secret: These are gonna get me killed.

1.) I've never read the novels. This isn't all that unusual. I've read most of the summaries, and I own a couple of the english releases, but even the ones I own, I've never sat down and read them through.

2.) I don't really care much about Gourry. *is murdered by the fandom* Seriously though. I don't hate him. I don't love him. He's just kind of... THERE for me. He seems like a plot device more than a character, and I just can't bring myself to care about his fate one way or another. He is pretty eye candy though. *hides*

Chrno Crusade

01. The first character I fell in love with: Chrno. He's sincere and noble, and has tragedy in his past. Plus pointy ears and a grown-up version that is hotness. That is like my personal anime character kryptonite formula. Plus purple hair. I seem to have a weakness for anime guys with purple hair. (Zelgadis, Clef, Chrno, Gackpoid.)

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Aion. I don't know why, because I should of expected it, but me liking him caught me off guard somehow. I think I expected him to be a villain I loved to hate, and instead I can kind of get what he's doing. (Especially as I caught more and more random bits of manga plot.). Not nessicarily agree with it, but I get it.

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Azmaria? I dunno. It's the Amelia thing minus the rabid fanbase. I'm just not fond of these clutzy, cutesy, overly-naive characters that never really outgrow that mold. If they can develop out of the mold, I can like them, but Azmaria doesn't really seem to.

04. The character you love that everyone else hates: I'm not active enough in the fandom to know who is hated.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Remmington. Well, I still like him, but he fell from grace with me quite a bit as I realized how manipulative he can be interpreted as being. Also, WE DO NOT POINT A SWORD AT THE FLUFFY, biatch. (Aside from Aion, he's the only character I experienced masive judgement change regarding over time.)

06. The character I would shag any time: ...Aion or Chrono. WHAT?! They're hotties. They're of legal age. If they were real... I'm a bad girl.

07. The character I'd want to be like: Chrno or Aion. I like that aspect of fight so hard for waht you believe in.

08. The character I'd slap: Ricardo Hendric. Creeper.

09. A pairing that I love: Chrno/Rosette and Fiore/Joshua. From what I hear, I might be sell-able on Chrno/Aion, but I'd need some well-written fic to show me how it works out.

10. A pairing that I hate: Umm. I'm not really familiar with the pairings because again, not active in the fandom, but Rosette/Joshua or Fiore/Satella would be gross. And I'm sure someone does. There's always someone. [Rule 34.]

11. My five favorite characters: Chrno, Aion, Rosette, Joshua, Remmington

12. My five least favorite characters: Ricardo Hendric, Rizel, those 3 side-kick nun gals--I forget thier names.

13. Which character I am most like: Probably Rosette. Stupidly devoted to the safety of my little brother. My family and close friends come first in most of my decisions. Bad decisions with good intentions sometimes.

14. My deep, dark fandom secret: I really want to read the manga to get the detailed version of the story, but none of my local shops have it, and I've been too lazy to find it online.

I'll give this a try.

Also, I do recommend the Chrno Crusade manga. It's a lot better than the anie in my opinion, especially in the ending. ^_~

It's not that I'm sick of Fakir/Ahiru. I'm sick of the lack of creativity.

This, for me, but I've come to associate the lack of creativity with the pairing so much that it's really killing my love for them. I won't even click on stuff that's tagged with them as a pairing anymore unless it's an artist/writer I like or something on the post catches my eye.

...Also I think a lot of your Chrono Crusade answers will match what my will be when I write it up.

Remmington. Well, I still like him, but he fell from grace with me quite a bit as I realized how manipulative he can be interpreted as being.

Huh...I've never thought of it that way. I'm half-tempted to reread the manga with that interpretation in mind and see if I can pick up signs of it.

I'm just not fond of these clutzy, cutesy, overly-naive characters that never really outgrow that mold. If they can develop out of the mold, I can like them, but Azmaria doesn't really seem to.

In the manga she kiiiinda does, although it's a bit "too little too late" by the time she does. There is one point towards the end though where Chrono and another (male) character are completely falling apart emotionally, and she's the one to kick their asses into gear and get them going on what they need to do. I just wish there'd been enough time in the manga to explore that bit of her character development more.

...Aion or Chrono. WHAT?! They're hotties.

*agrees with this 100% XD*

From what I hear, I might be sell-able on Chrno/Aion, but I'd need some well-written fic to show me how it works out.

I love Aion/Chrono in pretty much any shape or form (as a romantic pairing, as a bromance, as a sort of family unit) but...I think you'd maybe end up not liking it, judging from some of your other likes and dislikes...otherwise I'd totally rec some fic to you.

Umm. I'm not really familiar with the pairings because again, not active in the fandom, but Rosette/Joshua or Fiore/Satella would be gross. And I'm sure someone does.

I've never seen Fiore/Satella, but I've known a few people that have shipped Rosette and Joshua. Generally it's one-sided on Joshua's part because of being...well...loopy. (Although some of the stuff in the manga REALLY doesn't help, I suspect Moriyama has a bit of a kink for incest-y relationships--he never quite goes there, but some of the stuff he slips in is occasionally eyebrow raising. The worst is the main character in his current manga having been in love with his step-mother's kid sister. From what I've heard about it so far they were practically raised together, so...)

I really want to read the manga to get the detailed version of the story, but none of my local shops have it, and I've been too lazy to find it online.

Awful scanlation is...cringe-worthy at times, but. It works. It makes the English Major in me very, very twitchy did these people even pass their English class in high school but it gives you the basic idea and some parts of it are better than others.
If you lived in my area I'd just loan you my copy of the official manga, but. XD;; It's probably horribly difficult to find copies of the manga right now, I'd imagine, since ADV Manga is no more and nobody else has picked it up. I'm wishing I'd bought an additional set for myself when I had a chance.

...I'm really crazy for Chrono Crusade, can you tell? >>;

I can understand that. Some pieces are so well-done it doesn't matter. But I've seen so many standard costume Fakir and Ahiru kissing or dancing a graceful Pas de Deux, it just seems kind of like why did you even bother? There's 20 just like this already.

I look forward to your CC answers. :D

Do. I've read snippets of the manga, and it only re-enforced the concept in my head.

Gah. Makes me a bit sad to know Az' didn't make significant improvements in the manga either.

Damn smexy long-haired demons. It's just unfair. ;)

I think I'd definitely like Aion/Chrno as a bromance or family unit, I want to get the manga and see if it sells me on it romantically. You'd be surprised about me shipping. I'm oddly finicky about what I like and dislike. My preferences are very strange. Slayers and PTT are not the best way to see the crazy variance in my ships.

One-sided because Josh is loopy makes a certain amount of sense really. Reciprocated gets into incest, and as a big-sister myself, it's kind of a personal squick.

All else fails, I'll read the scans, but I need to renew my attempts to locate hard copies. I prefer having the books. :D

Not at all.... ;)

Right, that's pretty much my reaction. XD if they're pretty, awesome, but...I mean, there's so many GOOD pieces of art with Fakir and Ahiru like that I don't really need to fangirl over a so-so one.

Oh yeah--it's not so much that I think their personalities wouldn't work together for you? Juuuust that there's a spoilery detail revealed that would maybe make you not want to ship it.

One-sided because Josh is loopy makes a certain amount of sense really. Reciprocated gets into incest, and as a big-sister myself, it's kind of a personal squick.

It's weird, because I'm a big sister too (and my brother's even about the same age apart from me as Joshua), but...it doesn't bother me too much when it's presented under certain circumstances. I think I'm just too desensitized to weird ships. I definitely think it really only makes sense as being on Josh's part, though.

All else fails, I'll read the scans, but I need to renew my attempts to locate hard copies. I prefer having the books. :D

I definitely recommend that! The translation has a few errors in earlier volumes (they have Chrono say he can't heal Rosette when he said heal himself in the Japanese--and the anime!), but it's otherwise a pretty good translation. And much more readable than the scanlations due to actually having, like...editors. XD

*GASP* The horror Becky, the horror. Not my Gourry. ESP if he's part of my OTP (I'm learning the fandom acronyms!) I thought everybody loved that big hunk-but-stupid-as-a-rock stereotype.

You see, he's stupid, and simple-minded. But what I personally love about him is his devotion. Even if he understands it or not. His devotion & loyalty to Lina is quite...honest. And I think the simple-mindedness makes the affection to Lina even more genuine (in some weird / odd way). Kinda like how Forest Gump loves Jenni.

I read the whole chrno crusade manga and only saw 5 of the episodes and just with that little material, I can fully say that the manga is much, much better and that if you love the series, it is a definite read.

Also, the drawings are awesome. I picked up the series without even knowing what it was at first for that.

Mostly, it's the backgrounds and the clothing. Momma!

How can you learn about Zelgadis' crush on Lina if you don't read the novels? They're actually my favorite of all the various outlets for Slayers since they explain so much more. Plus, Gourry gets to shine a lot more in the novels (since he's always been kind of just there for me as well).

Summaries, fanworks, reading between lines and wild theorizing elated to the anime. Fanworks are what put Zel/Lina in my head to begin with.

I might like Gourry more in the novels. I know I've heard Amelia is tons better.

Its a matter of access. I have like novels 2, 5, & 6. :(

Amelia's downright awesome in the novels. After reading the novels, I wished they'd not introduced her so early in the anime since her character really suffered for it. But I digress. You already know what happens in the first novel since the beginning of The Slayers is taken directly from it, but you really ought to read what you have and see what you think, The worst that can happen is that you'll want to track down the novels you're missing. ;)

Hmm, sure, I'll take assignments. This looks fun.

Fakir. Like I said. I started out hating him.

So did I. >>; Which is apparently an odd thing, as most people loved him even when all you could see was the controlling douche-face. But yeah, it would have been either him or Rue that fit that one for me. I went with Rue, even though Fakir gradually worked his way up to my favorite character.

...Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't mind giving Autor a good smack, too. XD;

Lohengrin/Tutu (shut-up, [livejournal.com profile] blacksheep91 and I make it work).

...I ship it, too. Especially in that universe you guys created. Such a fun pairing idea. XD

It's not that I'm sick of Fakir/Ahiru. I'm sick of the lack of creativity. Especially when it's the same people drawing essentially the same picture in different poses repeatedly.

I am very guilty of this. >>; I've done a lot of weird things with them that goes as far as drawing them as dragons, but lately, my creativity has been running short, I guess. I got a burst of it with my rekindled love for Ragnarok Online, though. I even got my friend to play the Tutu/Ahiru in AU with me. I have a small comic of a running joke with it in the works. And an unfinished v-day art thing that probably fits with the 'lack of creativity' section since I couldn't pull of Ahiru literally throwing a box of chocolates at the back of his head. God, I suck at perspectives.

But I do hope to also get that other comic thing off the ground, too. Though I figured out, at least, that I can't do the 'continual story' type of thing with the full pages. It's killing me. And I just don't have the motivation for it. So I'm going to turn it into more of a crack comic of 4-panel randomness and jokes revolving around the PT chars in modern America.

...Sorry. That was a ramble.

Which is apparently an odd thing, as most people loved him even when all you could see was the controlling douche-face.

I don't believe anyone that claims that. Unless their the crazy yaoi fan sort that likes that kind of violent character, I think people that say they liked Fakir from the get-go are probably full of it.

Yeah, Rue was a close call as she was pretty jerk-ish at first too, but I stared out with a more active hate for Fakir and a wait-and-see for Rue.

...Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't mind giving Autor a good smack, too. XD;
He really does deserve it. ;)

Lohengrin/Tutu

I need to get back to playing with that --both versions. I've got too many plot bunnies right now.

I am very guilty of this. >>;

I don't think so. You do some unique stuff with your crossovers and funny concepts. You're not drawing them in the same pose over and over with "Yay. She's a girl after the series again and they're in love so they kiss/dance. <3"
I've seen that image drawn a hundred times in club tutu and unless they add some little thing that makes it unique, it's just DULL. The characters don't even have the banter dynamic going.

Sounds like a good idea.
