Although, thanks to Mary suggesting I cosplay Misfit at D*Con last year, I'm now a fan of "Birds of Prey" and starting to read a little "Secret Six".

So... Updates on the Young Justice cartoon.

Oh fer cripes sakes.
Art's not online for five hours and...

I am ranting. Feel free to just skip ahead to the drawing at the end.

I get it. I would love a straight Young Justice cartoon version. But with names all tied up in existing TV franchises, a straight, true-to-the-original-comic ain't gonna happen. Even without copyright, YJ is full of absurd puns ("I am Mighty Endowed!" "What's her power?" "She... She has huge tracts of land!") and is more than a little dated ("Hanson Bites!"). I love it, but I know they have to update it for new audiences, heck, they have to update it for TV audiences.
The irrational hate for a series that only has a promo poster thus far because it is not an exact carbon copy of the original enrages me to no end. It's generally accepted that the animated universe is completely separate from the comics universe. They are different. Enjoy each for what it is.

I love Bart. I make no secret of the fact that he is my absolute favorite superhero. The rest of the Young Justice team usually follows close behind. And much as I love Bart, the Bart-fanbase annoys the shit out of me. I get along great with Flash fans, but the Bart-fans... *throttles*

Yes, he was fun as Impulse. He was not "completely ruined" or thrown "out of character" when he became Kid Flash. Get the hell over that. I like Bart as KF. I like Bart as Impulse. I like the idea of Bart as Flash, although the execution lacked a bit in expressing what I felt was at the core of the character. I still happily brag that Bart was the strongest speedster in the DCU until this recent nonsensical ret-con of the Speed Force originated with Barry. Two DCU speedsters, speedsters that run with him, pre-date Barry. So that's all manner of WTF.

I would also appreciate the yaoi fandom getting the hell away from YJ. They're kids! Why the heck are you slashing children!? CREEPERS. (I do not have a problem with yaoi or shonen-ai. There are certain ships I am quietly supportive of. But I do not get along with this crap directed at children. Pedophilia is still pedophilia, ya'll.) These yaoi fangirls tend to be the most vocal against Kid Flash!Bart. I don't even understand that. He's older more mature, and evidently no longer as slash-able because he shows canon interest in girls? Which would require you to ignore his canon crushes on Carol and Rose from his Impulse days. Whatevs.
I don't "ship" superheroes. I read stories about heroes and epic camaraderie. STEP OFF.

The only thing I share with the raging hate going about, is a very mild concern about the identities of two of the heroes. I wonder if the green-outfitted, blonde-haired gal is meant to be a take on the original YJ's Arrowette or a version of the Amazon, Artemis. And then I wonder if the green-eyed and red-haired Kid Flash is supposed to be Bart Allen or Wally West. The physical description matches Wally, the team appears to match Bart (brown hair and gold eyes).

Even if the characters aren't who I hope they are, I am STILL excited about the show, because it's GregFUCKINGWeisman, of whom I love his work.

A few of you might recall me making this post a few months ago.

It's Young Justice!
Not 'Justice'! It's 'just us'. Adults never listen.

Okay. For serious. Rumor mill hit the streets a few months ago when Arrowette & Aqualad's designs were accidentally leaked by voice-acting candidates. Today, the announcement was officially made by CN and DC. Cartoon Network will be having a Young Justice cartoon.

(The larger version of this image is available at either of the linked announcement websites.)

Cartoon Network provided the following description of the series:
"Young Justice: In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over—to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you're not just a normal teenager? What if you're a teenage super hero? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you're worthy of the Justice League? That's exactly what the members of Young Justice—Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis—will find out: whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero?

This all-new series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based upon characters from DC Comics. Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) is the executive producer. Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman Doomsday, The Batman) and Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, The Spectacular Spider-Man, W.I.T.C.H.) are the producers.
" [Edited for better readability by s8.org/Greg W.]

NOW. As long as that red-haired and green-eyed Kid Flash is Bart Allen combined with lack of research, I'll be a happy camper.

Until proven otherwise, I will believe:
1. That Robin is Tim Drake. That is Tim's color scheme, and no other Robin would chill with Kon-El.
2. Artemis is a re-name of Arrowette, a.k.a. Cissie King-Jones.

An update from Greg W. himself (the man who gives me confidence the show will kick ass) via Ask Greg on s8.org:

" We're hard at work on the 26-episode first season. Got a great writing staff in place, and the designs look phenomenal. I really think the series will kick some major ass!

And that's about all I'm allowed to say right now...

Yes, I have a gallery of image macros at my disposal.

- Bart, Young Justice: Special #1

You guys know that I absolutely adore Young Justice and (more specifically) Impulse, right? It was the most fun DC Comics has had with a series in ages.

So when a DA friend, Aeolus06 shared a link this morning, I was overjoyed.

Young Justice League Animated Series on the Horizon? [Newsarama.com]

Apparently, a voice actress leaked a part she was recording for a new DC animated series in the works on her personal blog. The entry has since been taken down. :D Stephanie Lemelin blogged that she’s voicing Arrowette in an upcoming "Saturday morning cartoon" called Young Justice League. Oh yeah, she also posted an image of the character (seen at the Newsarama link) that she claimed was concept art for the series.

In a less-certain-sounding unidentified source, the starting cast has been listed as:
- Arrowette
- Impulse
- Superboy/Kon-El
- Nightwing
- Martian Girl
- Aqualad

Now, those last two were certainly never members of the team in the YJ comic (due to being a different generation set), and I hold onto the hope that some sort of name/TV licensing issue has them calling Tim!Robin Nightwing for this series. Which would give the Robin/Superboy/Impulse original founders of Young Justice thing. Anita Fite/Empress (Isn't her name just awesome? I-need-a-fight. XD) came into the comic later, so 'm not too worried about her inclusion yet. I just worry that the bat-family YJL member may not be Tim, and I see no Wonder Girl/Cassie Sandsmark or Secret listed there.

To get a feel for the original comic series, I have a bunch of quotes from the Impulse and Young Justice comics posted here.

I know this could turn out horrible, but I'm excited anyways.
